Updates Part 1

After so many people say I no life here, I will recap on what I have done since the reading week. Yea, I'm too slack to update on my life, end of sem liao then update on what I did during the mid terms. Oh well...

Reading Week Feb 19 -26

Went to Kicking Horse from Tuesday to Friday, with a bunch of students. Organised by RSA, which is something like JCRC, except that its for all students in Rez.

Tuesday

Took a bus to Kicking Horse, takes around 4 hours. Canadians are cute, whenever the bus goes past a lorry of hay, they will go "HEY!"

Arrived in our motel, Golden Rim Motor Inn, at around 5pm. The motel we stayed in looks like those kind of sleazy motels you see in movies, and with a faulty sign to boot.

Where there are Canadians, there will be beer and alcohol. They even brought a beer bong along! Of course, this is considered tame already. MZ got invited to a birthday party, and he went to smoke weed along with his friends. Even learnt how to roll them.

We then searched for a hill to do some tobogganing. Took some photos, but its too dark. Its very fun to toboggan, but its just a warming up for the fun in Kicking Horse!

Wed - Friday
3 days of skiing fun! Should look at my photos. The backdrop, The Rocky Mountains, is damn beautiful.

After skiing, we went to party in the town nearby. Nothing special, but met a group of students from the University of Alberta and another group from our university also.

All in all, these 4 days are perhaps my most enjoyable 4 days here, because I really love skiing. Though I did not really ski as much as I would want to, cause I spent some time teaching MZ and trying to teach SY, and also had to stick to the green zones to accomodate him. Anyway, I also quite paisei, I think MZ knows that I want to try more difficult terrain, so he pushed himself too much, ended up getting injured. Quite sway, cause that is our final run, and he fell at the end of the final run.

Sigh, wonder if I will have anymore chances to ski again.. Any skiing places in Indonesia?

Anyway, you might notice that I don't have many pictures of SY. This is because
1. She is too busy to give me her photos
2. She quit after the first day of skiing. After I had patiently tried to teach her, and failed, and the other more pro Canadians also tried, and failed, she quit skiing. Then still have to trouble Shelly to get refund for the other 2 days. Quite troublesome, cause the tickets are booked in a group, so very hard to ask for refund. Anyway, after that, she just spent the next 2 days in the hotel, dunno doing what. Actually, she also tried to get a refund on the hotel and go back go Calgary earlier, but that would mean the rest of the group need to pay more for her share of the hotel, so cannot.

Returned to Calgary on Friday night, we then prepared to leave for Banff the next day! Banff is a small town near the Rockies. Again, very beautiful place! Sorry for my poor command of English, cause I cannot find words to describe the beauty. Also sorry for my poor photography skills.

A group of HKies brought us there. Its around 2 hours away from Calgary. First, we walked around the town, and then went to the hot springs. We had 10 people, just enough for a group discount for the hot springs. However, SY did not want to go, so ended up paying more.

While in the hot springs, I was commenting to MZ if SY would take a picture of us in the hot springs, since she's just slacking outside. We agreed that she wouldn't, and she proved us right.

Anyway, we went back to Calgary after that. Had dinner in a Chinese Restaurant in Chinatown, and the food is damn nice and cheap. Luckily one of the HKies know the owner, so got discount I think. Had lobster lor! Probably the best meal I had in Calgary, and this is saying a lot, since we ate at a lot of places. When MZ was discussing about our travel plans, he's like "what's there to see in Grand Canyon? Amusement parks very fun meh? I don't like Disney. Why go so many parks?" So I asked him what he wants to do when he travels, and he said that he wants to eat. Now see how good this restaurant is?

And thats how I spent my reading week. 4 days skiing and 1 day in Banff. Oh, actually, the Saturday before we went to Kicking Horse, we went to COP, cause I told them that they should find an instructor to teach them in COP first. Turns out that this is not very useful..
